Cremation with Visitation
Choosing cremation doesn't mean choosing not to have a visitation. You may choose to have a visitation either before or after cremation. Visitation can take place here at Sumner House, or you may wish to have the visitation at your place of worship or other location.  This provides an opportunity for friends and colleagues to pay their final respects to the deceased and offer condolences to the family. A private viewing or visitation, limited to the deceased's immediate family, is an additional alternative.

Cremation with a Funeral Service
It's common for a funeral service to take place after a visitation or prior to burial or interment. Again, the funeral service may be here at Sumner House or it may be at your place of worship, or even at the cemetery, mausoleum, or columbarium. Prayers, scripture readings, words of wisdom, or fond memories may be offered by clergy, friends, and family. A funeral service can be a wonderful time to remember and celebrate the life of the deceased.

Cremation with a Committal Service
A committal service can accompany the placement of cremated remains in a final resting place. The cremation urn may be buried in a traditional cemetery lot, or another permanent resting place such as a mausoleum, columbarium, or church niche. A committal service can also include remarks offered by a clergyperson or other individual.

Cremation with a Memorial Service
Like a funeral service, a memorial service is a time to remember and celebrate the life of the deceased. You may choose to have the cremated remains present in a decorative urn during a memorial service. A memorial gathering can take place shortly after cremation occurs, or may take place at a later date. The anniversary of death is also a common time for a memorial service.

Direct Cremation
Cremation without a service is often called Direct Cremation. This is one of the many options available to you and is no less valid a choice than the others. The funeral directors at Heald & Chiampa are here to help you make whatever arrangements fit your needs.
